Join us for a military history exhibition and documentary screening at 6 p.m., May 31.
- The Brettheim Museum offers a traveling exhibition that has been displayed around the world. It explores war crimes committed in the last days of the war.
- The Incident at Brettheim documentary (Die Männer von Brettheim) was produced by local Realschule students from Rothenburg ob der Tauber in 1995. Survivors recall SS atrocities and the arrival of U.S. troops.
In the last days of the war, in April 1945, four Hitler Youth were disarmed in the Franconian village of Brettheim by local inhabitants, who wanted to prevent the destruction of their village in a senseless battle with the Americans. The same evening, the SS arrived in the village and interrogated town residents. What followed was the murder of local civilians and a vicious battle against allied forces.
