Run for Your Life Program

The Run for Your Life program is designed to improve strength and endurance through progressive walking and running. Military and civilian personnel and their family members 18 years and up may participate in the program. The program provides incentive awards to increase motivation and advancement of participants. Mileage certificates and patches will be given to participants who reach benchmark accomplishments.

Individuals interested in participating can download the Run for Your Life application form AE-215-10AR and the progress record mile log form AE-215-10A-R1.

Program overview:

  • This program is open to active duty members of the U.S. military, U.S. Identification (I.D.) card holders who are: Department of Defense (DOD) appropriated or Nonappropriated Funds (NAF) U.S. citizen employees, U.S. contractors who are eligible to use U.S. military facilities, family members of any of the before mentioned personnel, or family members of an active duty member of the U.S. military. Participating DOD employees must be either in off-duty status or, if participating during duty hours, do so with supervisor approval pursuant to an approved physical fitness agreement. See USAREUR-AF Civilian Fitness Policy (AEA Cmd Memo 2023-019).

  • This program applies to all Rotational Allied Forces (RAF) units, who are currently stationed in the USAG Ansbach footprint. These units are only authorized to participate in the program during the time that they are stationed in USAG Ansbach.

  • The President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports recommends that personnel over 35 years of age who have been inactive for several years consult a physician before beginning an exercise program.

  • Enrollment and Participation. Eligible personnel submit the log-sheet to the RFYL Program Coordinator or submit your documents in person to the USAG Ansbach Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers. First time program members should also submit the application when turning in their log-sheets.

  • Participants should track all cardio on the log sheet and send the completed sheet to the RFYL Program Coordinator.

  • Participants are enrolled into a 6-month program to complete as much running mileage as they can during that time period.

  • Once a participant reaches the milestone of 500 miles, they will no longer be on a timeline and are then permanently enrolled in the RFYL program.

  • Incentives. Soldiers can receive an incentive in the form of a Certificate of Achievement (COA) for achieving each milestone in the RFYL program.

  • The milestones are 50, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 750, 1000, 2500, 5000, 7500, and 10000 miles. Soldiers receive a COA after completing each milestone. Enlisted personnel can receive up to 20 promotion points for a maximum of 4 COAs. Civilians are also able to receive a COA for the above stated milestones.

  • The COAs are signed by the Garrison Commander and Garrison Command Sergeant Major. The RFYL Program Coordinator will arrange for the signatures of the Garrison Command team for each COA and route the signed COA back to the Soldiers.

  • Submission of Records. Soldiers will have their unit Commander or First Sergeant verify the running log against their GPS tracker to ensure the mileage was completed and act as COA Recommender. The Recommender will then send the Soldier’s application, log sheets, and mileage verification to the Fitness Center or RFYL Program Noncommissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC). The RFYL Program Coordinators will maintain the records of each participant’s mileage for a period of no less than three years.

  • This program is a year-round activity, is in effective on the above date signed, and remains in effect until rescinded.

The Run for Your Life coordinator (USAG Ansbach BOSS President) will verify log sheets and prepare a memorandum and Certificate of Achievement requesting Garrison Command Sergeant Major and the USAG Ansbach Commander signatures.
